MODERN WARFARE 3 SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN REVIEW

The Russians again? Yep, Modern Warfare is back and making sure a whole new generation is aware of the potential “Red Dawn” threat of Russian invasion. To be fair, we always have to suspend reality when we play MW and just “honor the carnage.” So begins the third installment in this groundbreaking series, picking up where MW2 left off. New York is under attack and we are thrust strait into the action storming the floor and roof of the NYC stock exchange.

Does any of the plot make sense, well kinda if you played the last two, but they were confusing on their own. Some rouge Russian agent has somehow begun WWIII again, but this time instead of launching a tactical nuke, he detonates nerve gas in downtown London. We could spend a lot of time trying to explain the plot, but if you’re a fan of COD, you’ve learned it is better to just play the game, not think about the plot and enjoy the experience while taking breaks from multi-player.

So does MW3 single player deliver?

Yes and No. The graphics are stunning and you trek across the globe fighting bad guys in Europe and Africa. Let me interject that MW3 doesn’t hold back in making you feel OK about taking these guys out as they show the Baddies killing innocent civilians. Still you wonder if that poor digital soldier you just Noob-tubed was only doing his job; but I digress.

MW3 is a very good game with amazing moments. Without too much of a spoiler, there is one scene where you chase a subway train in London’s Tube that is intense. You then fight through more bad guys in the underground terminal. There is a moment in which you are begin to walk up an escalator and they drop a grenade down at you and you hear it bounce of every metal step as you run to get out of the way. Moments like that make the game and we wish there were more of them. The problem, if we can say there is one, is it tries too hard to always go “over the top.” Not that we don’t love taking on swarms of bad guys on the streets of Paris, just that what makes a good game is when you take the time to set the stage. Not that MW3 has always done this, but the franchise has had such great moments over the past and we wouldn’t have minded them taking a little more time to set-the-stage in this 5 ½ hour epic.

Still, it is a great game and we all come to COD for the multi-player anyway so this is just a bonus. You get to test out all the guns you have in multi-player and a few of the kill streaks. But can a brother get a scrambler, claymore or bouncing betty to play with? Guess those are all saved for multi-player.

And to answer the question we posed to Infinity Ward back at E3- “Will there be any Latino characters in MW3?” Well we didn’t catch any major ones, but we did see two soldiers- Pvt. Madrid, cpl. Andaya. Word is they name all the characters after real-life heroes. So where ever you guys are, OT gives you thanks.
